The Lockport Township High School District 205 Board of Education announces that Board Member Lou Ann Johnson has submitted her resignation from the Board of Education, effective July 31, 2026.
Mrs. Johnson was appointed to the Board of Education in 2009 and has dedicated more than 17 years of service to the students, staff, families, and community of Lockport Township High School District 205. Throughout her tenure, she remained committed to educational excellence and to ensuring students have the tools and opportunities needed to become tomorrow's leaders.
A retired employee of Nicor Gas, Mrs. Johnson has also been an active community leader. Since 2005, she has served as a trustee at Second Baptist Church in Joliet, where she participates in the finance ministry and mentors youth. She has served on numerous community organizations, including the National Hook-Up of Black Women (NHBW), Inc., Joliet Area Congregation Based Organization, Northeastern Illinois Agency on Aging, Community Life Ministries, Church Women United, Guardian Angel Community Services Board, and Advocates United for Joliet Children.
Mrs. Johnson also completed extensive leadership and governance training throughout her years of service and earned the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) Master Board Member Award in recognition of her commitment to effective school board leadership and professional development.
"Lou Ann Johnson has served Lockport Township High School District since 2009 in addition to her numerous other civic contributions. We hope to find someone to replace her who has the same passion and commitment to public service and high school students,” said Superintendent Dr. Robert McBride.
Board Vacancy Application Process
The Board of Education is seeking qualified individuals to fill the vacant Board seat. The individual appointed by the Board will serve until the April 2027 Consolidated Election. Any individual appointed to the vacant seat on the Board will have to run for election in the April 2027 Consolidated Election if they choose to do so or if they want to complete Mrs. Johnson’s full term.

Applicants must:
Be a citizen of the United States.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Be a registered voter.
Have been a resident of Illinois and Lockport Township High School District 205 for at least one year prior to appointment.
Not be disqualified from serving under Illinois law.
