Safety Dog Program

As part of Lockport Township High School District 205's continued commitment to school safety, the District is introducing a new Safety Dog Program beginning with a pilot during Summer School and expanding to full implementation for the 2026–2027 school year.

Each campus, East Campus and Central Campus, will have its own dedicated Safety Dog Team consisting of a trained handler and safety dog. These highly trained working dogs are specifically trained in firearms detection and will serve as an additional proactive layer of the District's comprehensive school safety efforts.

Students attending Summer School will begin seeing the Safety Dog Teams during the final week of Summer School as part of the program's pilot. Beginning with the first day of the 2026–2027 school year, the teams will be present on their respective campuses to support a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.

The Safety Dog Program aligns with Board Policy 4:170 – Safety and reflects the District's continued investment in enhancing school safety through proactive measures. While on duty, the Safety Dogs are working and should not be petted or distracted.

Families are encouraged to learn more about the program, meet the Safety Dog Teams, and review answers to frequently asked questions by visiting the Safety Dog Program landing page.
