In-Person Learning Monday, January 26

Dear Lockport Township High School District 205 Parents and Guardians,

We hope our Porter families are staying warm and safe as winter weather continues across our area.

At this time, Lockport Township High School District 205 is planning to remain open on Monday, January 26, for in-person learning and follow the late start Wednesday schedule.

As we shift to a late start, our bus pick-up times will also follow the Wednesday schedule. We are allowing more time for our buses to prepare and be up and running, and allowing temperatures to be a bit warmer, so that we can continue to offer in-person learning. The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory from midnight tonight through 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26, with forecasted wind chills ranging from -15 to -25 degrees.

With cold temperatures expected, we ask for your partnership in ensuring students are
dressed appropriately for winter weather, including warm coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and appropriate footwear. Proper attire is especially important during arrival, dismissal, students walking to school, and while waiting at bus stops, as exposure to extreme cold can pose safety concerns even for short periods of time.

At this time, all athletics and activities are scheduled to proceed as planned on Monday, January 26. Any decisions or changes regarding athletics and activities will be announced through the coaches and activity sponsors via their channels of communication. For additional information, please visit the Emergency/Weather Information & Guidelines on the LTHS website.

I want to take a moment to share how the district approaches weather-related decisions. Our process is thoughtful, data-informed, and focused on student safety. It includes:

  • Continuous monitoring of temperature and wind chill data from the National Weather Service

  • Collaboration with area superintendents and our feeder school districts

  • Review of the district’s Emergency/Weather Guidelines

  • Assessment of transportation readiness, including bus operations

  • Evaluation of building systems to ensure our campuses can be safely and evenly heated

  • Consideration of state attendance requirements and what constitutes a full school day

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Additional information regarding our decision-making process can be found on the Emergency/Weather Information & Guidelines on the LTHS website.

Please stay warm, and thank you for partnering with us to keep our Porter community safe.

All the best,

Robert McBride, Ed.D

Superintendent, Lockport Township High School District 205
