Two LTHS seniors, Julianne Carway and Gabriella Kedzierski, have earned the prestigious distinction of National Merit Scholar Semifinalist in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. Representing the top one percent of high school seniors nationwide, these students are among more than 16,000 across the country to achieve this honor based on their outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT® exam.
According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®), these academically talented seniors now have the opportunity to compete for nearly $26 million in National Merit Scholarships, which will be awarded next spring.
To advance to the Finalist level, Semifinalists must submit a detailed application highlighting their academic record, leadership, involvement in school and community activities, and other achievements. About 95 percent of Semifinalists are expected to become Finalists, and approximately half of those students will earn a National Merit Scholarship and the title of Merit Scholar®.
The LTHS District 205 Board of Education congratulated Julianne and Gabriella for their efforts during the December 15 Board meeting and wishes them continued success as they move forward in the competition.
Scholarship winners will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July, joining nearly 389,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
