Course Description: A study of the social, economic, and political development of the United States from the American Revolution to the rise of Big Business. Emphasis will be placed on the developing historical themes, critical thinking, as well as reading and writing. Topics will include the American Revolution, the rise of a Federalist/Republican government, the growth of nationalism, the age of Jackson, Manifest Destiny, Sectional crisis, Reconstruction Industrialization, Imperialism, the World at War, the Great Depression and New Deal, the Cold War, the struggle for Civil Rights, conflict in Vietnam, and present day tensions in Middle East.
