Course Description: A study of the social, economic, and political development of the United States from the American Revolution to the rise of Big Business. Emphasis will be placed on the developing historical themes, critical thinking, and reading and writing. Topics will include: the American Revolution, the rise of a Federalist/Republican government, the growth of nationalism, the age of Jackson, Manifest Destiny, Sectional crisis, Reconstruction and concluding with Industrialization. This course is a required first semester course for junior students.
