    Course Description: The focus of the course is to explore and discuss issues in contemporary society. The course is designed for students to develop critical thinking skills necessary to connect literature to real-world experiences from both history and present day. Students will be required to read several novels and additional supplementary pieces, research and present contemporary issues, and write several essays in various forms linking the literature to contemporary issues. This course meets state of Illinois guidelines as a reading and writing intensive course. There is a summer reading requirement for this course; the reading must be completed prior to the start of the school year.
