Lockport Township High School District 205 is served by seven Board of Education members who are elected by residents and who volunteer their time to lead our district. Board members serve four-year terms on a staggered basis and must reside in the district. The District 205 Board of Education adopts policies and rules that govern the administration of the school district. The Board operates in strict accordance with Illinois laws and Illinois State Board of Education regulations, and they adopt policy only when members meet in an official session.
All Illinois school board members must receive training in professional development leadership (P.A. 97-8) and the Open Meeting Act (P.A. 97-504). Mandatory training will also be required after the new teacher evaluation requirements are implemented in each school district. Completed development and training activity is listed for each school board member. Training was provided by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) unless otherwise noted.
The School Board appoints and supervises the Superintendent of Schools, whose job it is to run the day-to-day operations of the school district and to provide educational leadership and vision for administrators, faculty, and staff. Many of you already are familiar with our Board members, but there may be some things that you do not know about them.
Ann Lopez-Caneva, PresidentAnn Lopez-Caneva is a graduate of LTHS, Joliet Junior College and Governors State University. She has served multiple boards including the Kelvin Grove District 91 Board of Education, the White Oak Library District, and the Guardian Angel Community Services. Having served on the LTHS School Board in the capacity of Vice-President for several years, she assumed the position of President in 2018. She is also a member of the Lockport Woman's Club. Ann is married to Dr. Daryl Caneva and the mother of three children. She is an advocate for education, especially the fine arts, and wants to strive and maintain the best education for our students that will prepare them for life beyond school while overseeing the school budget and programs. Ann looks forward to working with her fellow board members to overcome the challenges that LTHS is facing with unfunded mandates and school safety.

Lisa Bickus, Vice President
Lisa Bickus, LTHS School Board Vice President since 2018 after many years served as a Board Member, is a resident of the school district for 20 years. She is the owner of Bickus Plumbing in Lockport and is currently employed at NCSF in Mount Prospect. She is a member of LTHS Lyncs, Lockport's Women's Club; Lockport Rotary; Lockport, Joliet, and Homer Township chambers; Will Buy Locally; Vistage International; and member, Homer Founder's Club. She also worked in commercial banking for 20 years after earning a graduate degree in finance from Northern Illinois University. Lisa wants to collaborate with LTHS communities, faculty, administration, and students to bring the highest level of achievement possible as a child's education is the most important gift we can provide. Lisa and her husband, Gregg, live in Lockport and have four children.

Dr. Veronica Shaw, SecretaryDr. Veronica Shaw has lived in Lockport for more than 20 years and is a graduate of LTHS. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and her Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of St. Francis, allowing her to receive her Superintendent's endorsement from the State of Illinois. At Lincoln-Way High School, she is the Associate Principal of Discipline & Operations, and a former Spanish teacher. She is also certified in Special Education and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of St. Francis. She is a member of the District 210 Strategic Planning Committee, the Welcome Back Coordinator for the National Association for Down Syndrome at Silver Cross Hospital, and a Parent-Wise Volunteer at the Ann & Robert Lurie Children's Hospital. She and her husband Jason returned to Lockport after college to raise their family because of the high academic standards set forth by the District. Dr. Shaw looks forward to addressing the challenges of maintaining the high standards already in place and assisting the district in its mission to provide an equitable and challenging environment for all students.
Richard Ives, MemberRichard Ives, a married father of two children, was sworn in at the June 19, 2017 board meeting. Ives said he is looking forward to being more involved because he believes that a well-rounded local educational program is vital for a strong and supportive community. He believes that his professional qualifications as a business leader are well-suited to assist in Board matters. Ives, a Lockport resident since 2002, replaced board member Mike Petty, who resigned in May 2017. As a community leader, Ives has held many volunteer positions including: current Member and Board Liaison to the LTHS Foundation; Board Member, Lockport Rotary Club; former President, Lockport Junior Miss Softball Board; Rotary Club Liaison, LTHS Interact Club; and former Head Coach, Lockport Prowl Fastpitch Softball. For the past 31 years, Mr. Ives has been the President of International Subrogation Management, a division of NorthShore International Insurance Services, Inc. in Plainfield, as well as Shareholder and Executive Vice-President of Northshore International in Danvers, MA.

Lou Ann Johnson, MemberLou Ann Johnson was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, and retired from Nicor Gas. Since 2005, Lou Ann has served as a trustee at Second Baptist Church in Joliet, serving in the finance ministry and as a youth mentor. She also serves on many boards including National Hook-Up of Black Women (NHBW), Inc.; Joliet Area Congregation Based Organization Body; Northeastern Illinois Agency on Aging, Community Life Ministries, Second Baptist Church; Church Women United; Guardian Angel Community Service Board; and Advocates United for Joliet Children. Lou Ann's goal is to provide the tools and resources needed for today's students to become tomorrow's leaders.

Michael Lewandowski, MemberMichael Lewandowski, who is married with one child, has served the district since 1999. He was born in Chicago but has lived in Lockport Township since childhood. An LTHS alum, Michael is a master harp builder/craftsman and tour guide for Lyon & Healy Harps in Chicago. Mike has served on many community boards such as the Illinois Association of School Boards Governing Board, the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) as the LTHS delegate, and more. He is the current chair of the IASB Three Rivers Division and the former director-at-large for same. Michael wants to provide a safe and secure environment to educate all LTHS students and to continue to work with the administration to establish goals for improving student achievement.

Michael Travis, Member
Michael Travis is a lifelong citizen of the city of Lockport, and is a proud graduate of Lockport Township High School. He and his wife Rebecca have three children, all graduates of LTHS, and two grandchildren. He is employed with Canadian National Railroad and is an active member of the Lockport community. He has served as a committee chairperson at his church, and is excited to be serving the community in the capacity of Member of the Board of Education. He plans to work to ensure effective, transparent, and fair handling of all Board matters. He looks forward to addressing such issues as health, education, and welfare for all students. His top priority is to ensure that our students are served well.
