Mathematics

Department Philosophy

 

The goal of the mathematics department is to provide students with opportunities to approach new challenges through investigating, reasoning, visualizing and problem solving.

All students will be engaged in learning experiences that foster growth in the ability to interpret and communicate about the mathematical relationships observed and the problems solved. The mathematics department will make use of the necessary tools, including technological equipment such as the calculator and the computer. This will assist the students in making connections with various settings beyond the classroom (i.e. planning materials for our homes and offices, understanding budgets and statistics, and issues of quantitative literacy) by applying their math skills to everyday problems both while in school and in their later years.
