Schedule Change Information

As a result of the severe overcrowding at both Central and East Campuses, the LTHS Board of Education has implemented schedule changes for the 2009-2010 school year and beyond.

At its April 21, 2008 meeting, the Lockport Township High School Board of Education reviewed scholarly research on scheduling options to alleviate the severe overcrowding LTHS is experiencing.

The priority of the Board of Education was to develop a plan that addresses student and staff safety while maintaining an orderly environment conducive to teaching and learning.  In addition to the research component, LTHS sought input from staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.

After reviewing the research presented, the Board of Education chose to alter scheduling next school year (2009-2010) by implementing the first phase of the Split Schedule (6:44 a.m. start time, 12:40 or 1:40 dismissal time) for all Juniors and Seniors.

At the same time, Freshman and Sophomore students will start their days at 8:44 a.m. and dismiss at 3:44 p.m.  These varied start and dismissal times will create more space in the hallways and classrooms for our students at the beginning and end of the school day.

The second phase of the Split Schedule, with half the student body attending classes in the morning and half in the afternoon, will be implemented when our student enrollment reaches 4,250 students.  The enrollment at LTHS is currently approaching 4,000 students.

The Notice of Schedule Change is located in the menu on the right side of this page, together with a summary of the research that was conducted on scheduling options, and the 2009-2010 Bell Schedule..
