Everyone can make a difference! The goals of the Consortium are big, and extremely important to the health of our communities and neighborhoods. Long term goals include plans to decrease the percent of alcohol, tobacco and other drug incidents, to increase the mean age of first use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, to decrease the incidents of all violent acts in grades K-12, and to increase the support to students experiencing difficulties, both in school and at home. Short term goals include educating students, parents and the key community stakeholders to increase knowledge and skills to change community norms, help kids overcome negative environments, and as a result, achieve the long term goals. There are many societal influences that challenge parents, children, community members and professionals committed to healthy families and neighborhoods. The following story gives hope to people dedicated to helping children resist the draw of the drug culture and become happy, healthy, successful and productive members of society. |
