LTHS offers a wide variety of activities for students to get involved in and to become a member in.  To the right are links for these activities.For more information on an activity click on the  corresponding link. You will be provided with a description, meeting places, meeting times, and the sponsor or sponsors for that activity. Lockport Township High School's Student Activities Director is Mr. Brian Klene. AFJROTC

Club Description: AFJROTC is open to all students enrolled in the school. Cadets participate in a wide variety of activities which include: School and community service projects; Color Guard, Drill Team, and Saber Team; Field trips to military installations and airports; Orientation flights at military installations and airports; Attendance at six day Summer Leadership School at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, IL; Dances; Model aircraft and rocket construction; Annual awards night banquet.

Art Club

Club Description: The Art Club is an after school activity that provides materials, instruction and support for those students who are seeking a creative outlet in addition to their academic schedule. All art rooms (drawing, painting, computer, ceramics, and photography) are made available to the students.

Auto Club

Club Description: The Auto Club is open to all students enrolled in Vocational Auto 1 & 2, and Intro to Autos.  Students participate in "Shop Talk" discussions, "Bench Racing" activities, and minor repairs and maintenance to their vehicles. Students also participate during Open House with demonstrations, and enter a float in the Homecoming Parade. A field trip to the Chicago Auto Show is also scheduled.

Bands

Club Descriptions: (For further information please click on the word Bands above.)
Marching Band:
The Marching Porters have a long tradition of excellence and is a source of pride to Lockport area communities. The band has appeared in many parades, both local and statewide, including the State Street Thanksgiving Day Parade, Disney Parades in both Florida and California, and the Von Stuben Day Parade featured in the hit film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". The Marching Porter Band is a volunteer extra-curricular component of the Lockport Band program. Membership in the Porter Marching Band consists of auditioned members from the six curricular concert bands and various auditioned individuals in the guard. The Marching Porters performs annually at all home football games, numerous parades, and five to six field competitions. Every member who auditions (alternates and full members) will perform at every home football games and parade. Members selected as alternates will perform in every other field competition. Auditions are held annually in March and will include instructional audition days for any first year members.

Pep Band:
The Porter Pep Band is a volunteer band which performs for all home Men’s Varsity home basketball games. The band is committed to developing spirit and enthusiasm through a variety of cheers and pop/rock music.

Jazz Band:
The Lockport Township High School Jazz Ensembles are a extra-curricular component of the Lockport Band program in which students explore various musical styles within the jazz idiom. The Jazz Ensembles have been active in many festival events, both in Illinois and nationally, with many students winning Outstanding Jazz Musician Awards. Instrumentation includes saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, bass, guitar, and drums. The level of the students' interest determines the structure of the jazz program. Students must be enrolled in one of the curricular bands (except for guitar and bass players). Auditions are held in early November, and groups rehearse a minimum of twice a week. Performances include jazz festivals, the Annual Jazz Showcase, and other various community functions.

Wind Symphony:
The Wind Symphony consists of the most advanced musicians in grades 10- 12. This band meets daily and performs in four concerts along with eight to ten festivals per year. Every member of the Wind Symphony receives weekly private lessons from professional musicians in the area while also working with some of the nation's most prominent clinicians and guest conductors. Over the years, the Wind Symphony has earned consistent Superior Division Ratings at the State Organization Contest, performed at both the Music Educator's National Conference and Illinois Music Educator's Conference, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and has been selected for the University of Illinois Superstate Band Festival nineteen times.

Symphonic Band:
The Symphonic Band is made up of students in grades 10- 12. This band performs music of a challenging nature and focuses on the continuing development of the musical skills of its members. The Symphonic Band performs in four concerts and 3-4 adjudication festivals annually. Bi-weekly private lessons during band or after school are expected of all members in this ensemble, as well as a serious commitment to practicing the literature.

Concert Band:
Concert Band consists of students in grades 10-12 and places emphasis on the development of musical fundamentals in preparation for future placement in Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, or Collegiate Ensembles. Private lessons during band or after school are encouraged of all members in this ensemble as well as a serious commitment to practicing the literature performed. The Concert band performs in four concerts a year.

Freshman Band:
All freshman band students are assigned to the Freshman Bands, and meet as a class each day during school. The groups serve as an introduction to the high school band experience at LTHS. As enrollment allows, the group is divided in order to give students the maximum opportunity to improve their playing abilities and musical knowledge. Emphasis is placed on developing a base of musical fundamental skills through music and exercises appropriate to the level of the ensemble. Private lessons during band or after school are encouraged of all members in this ensemble as well as a serious commitment to practicing the literature performed. The Freshman Band performs in four formal concerts every year, in addition to two festivals.

Winter Guard:
The Winter Guard at Lockport Township High School is an extra-curricular activity which offers participation to both males and females. The activity demands physical involvement in rehearsal and performance including sequential body movement and choreography both with and without flags. Many members of the Winter Guard are also members of the Color Guard the visual aspect of the Marching Band. The Winter Guard season runs from January through March. The purpose of the Winter Guard is to strive for excellence, develop teamwork, and to entertain at the highest performance level. Thus, the indoor guard opportunity is a blend of that produces “The Sport of the Arts.”

Best Buddies

Club Description: Best Buddies is an international organization that fosters one on one friendships between students attending regular education classes and those students who have special needs. Students are encouraged to get together outside school, call each other on the phone and email. Parties are held after school alternating months. Through Best Buddies, students are able to see that we are all more alike than not.

Computer Club

Club Description: The Computer Club is open to all students from both campuses. Our club offers a variety of activities such as: free use of the Internet, help in searching for information for group projects, time to access the internet for recreational purposes. Programming Languages can be taught to students who are interested in Basic and C language.

Future Educators of America

Club Description: What is FEA? FEA is short for Future Educators of America, a club for students interested in working in the filed of education. FEA is primarily a service club that provides opportunities to learn more about the field of education and to help out teachers within our building. Our club works with the Special Education/Transition students as well as with local feeder schools to learn more about the field of education.

Great Books Club

Club Description: The Great Books and Poetry Club is open to any Lockport High School student who finds reading enjoyable, relaxing, and stimulating. Participants encounter some of the finest classics and contemporary authors and poets through reading and discussion. The group discussions provide an atmosphere where students feel confident about sharing their ideas. The leaders and participants work together to answer questions that reflect doubt about a story's meaning. Other activities may include field trips to book stores, book reviews, poetry reading and slams. The Great Book Club also sponsors the Expresso Expressions Coffeehouses.

Club Description: Students participate in school and Village floral fundraisers, community service projects (food drives), spring bedding plant sales and they donate floral arrangements to local nursing homes. National Honor Society

Club Description: The National Honor Society is an organization of students who excel in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. N.H.S. members serve their school and community through activities such as the Tutoring Program. School events sponsored by the N.H.S. include the Homecoming Dance, Teacher Appreciation Week, and the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. Juniors, and Seniors may be eligible for membership by having a cumulative grade point average, weighted or unweighted, of at least 3.5. Students must also have at least 18 hours of school /community service and of those 18 hours, 3 hours must be true volunteer community service hours. The 18 hours cannot all come from being in a sport at the school. Once qualified, students are selected by a committee of faculty members.

Orchesis

Club Description: Orchesis is a dance performance club open to all Lockport students. Auditions are held for choreographers in the following dance styles: ballet, lyrical, jazz, modern, hip-hop, tap and ethnic. Dancers audition for the dances and rehearse from early November through March. The performance is held at the East Campus Auditorium. Guest choreographers also work with selected Orchesis dancers on a dance to be performed in the March shows.

They attend area clinics, camps and compete in regional and state competitions for dance and pom. At tryouts the girls are judged on their dance ability, rhythm, pep, and appearance.

Porter Press

Club Description: The Porter Press in published approximately once a month. No previous experience is necessary to be a staff member or a news writer. The staff does everything from writing stories to actually putting the newspaper together. Students interested in art, business, and photography will also find a place on the staff. No matter what a your interests may be, the Porter Press will have a place for you.

Club Description: Students against destructive decisions.

Scholastic Bowl

Club Description: Jeopardy-like quiz bowl where Varsity and Junior Varsity teams compete against other schools. Students participate in Saturday tournaments, and mid-week conferences for SWSC and IHSA competition.

Science Club "JETS"

Club Description: All students interested in science. Science Club activities include competitions that involve testing in the various science subjects, building toothpick bridges and windmills, building and racing mousetrap cars, tree identification, and other challenges. The club is actively involved in "Mole Day." Other activities can be planned, depending on member interests.

Science Special Project

Club Description: Students get involved in programs outside of the school setting such as Fermilab, Argonne, University of Illinois, Adler Planetarium and numerous other Universities.

Senior Class

Club Description: All activities are organized by the sponsors and class officers, but participation is open to all class members. The senior class is responsible for coordinating the Homecoming Parade line up and for building a Homecoming class float. Other activities sponsored by the senior class include a dinner dance for seniors only, the panoramic class photograph, the Top10% Dinner, and Late Night (the all night party following graduation).

Sign Language Club

Club Description: The purpose of this club is to explore American Sign Language and learn the official language of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Extra activites of this club include meeting with deaf students/adults, exploring deaf culture, learning to sign songs, hosting a pool party for deaf students, and decorating for Homecoming.

Ski and Snowboard Club

Club Description: Lockport Ski and Snowboard Club is a student funded organization that enables students to enjoy skiing and snowboarding throughout the winter months. We take trips to various midwest resorts, usually on Saturdays. You do not have to know how to ski or snowboard nor do you need to have your own equipment. Any student enrolled here at LTHS is welcome to join.

Snowball

Club Description: Snowball is an organization for the purpose of providing opportunities for students to build self-esteem in a drug-free environment. Membership is open to all students. Student leaders meet on a regular basis in preparation for the main annual activity, the Annual Snowball, a 1-3 day event featuring speakers on topics of interest to teens, followed by small discussion groups which allow participants to express their views on the topics covered by the speakers or other topics they feel strongly about. The event is organized, planned, and staffed by members of Operation Snowball. The high school students also staff the Snowflake, which is held each year at the Junior High Schools.

Spanish Honor Society

Club Description: Spanish Honor Society activities include Spanish conversation tables, cultural activities, participation in scholarship opportunities, Foreign Language Induction Program, and volunteer work. The Skull Making activity will be held on Wednesday, November 1, after school in Room 14B. We are still looking for representatives for Spanish Honor Society. The student must be an active member in SHH and be willing to participate in the Induction Ceremony in the Spring.

Special Olympics

Club Description: A club that is made up of Special Olympic Volunteers and Athletes. The club meets informally throughout the year. Volunteers assist our Special Olympic Athletes prepare for their area 7 conference events along with friendly competitions with other schools.

Speech Team

Club Description: The speech team competes in a total of ten tournaments from November through February. The thirteen competitive events range from public speaking to acting. Students who like to write their own material may compete in original comedy, original oratory, or special occasion speaking. Dramatic and humorous duet acting as well as dramatic and humorous interpretation is designed for those who like acting. Other events include radio speaking, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, oratorical declamation, prose and poetry reading.

Student Government

Club Description: The Student Government consists of the students who wish to lead the school in both social and community activities. Students may become members by attending three consecutive meetings. Officers for the organization are elected in the spring by the student body for the following school year. This organization represents the student body at school board meetings and on various other communities. In addition, the Student Government sponsors many social activities throughout the school year such as Homecoming, concerts, pep assemblies, and the Twirp dance in the spring. Furthermore, Student Government is interested in working within our community. The money that is made is contributed to worthy causes. Also, time is donated to such organizations as the Heartland Blood Bank. The Lockport Student Government is also very active in the SWSC Student Government. Each year members attend a Leadership Conference, which is held at one of the SWSC Conference Schools.

Web Site Design Club

Club Description: The Web Site Design Club is open to all students at Lockport High School. Students will learn various programs to produce and work with graphics and digital imaging.  Participants will learn to produce web pages with Photoshop, ImageReady and WYSIWYG editors.  We will be gathering information and designing our school web site.  Time will also be available to work on personal web sites and learn new web technologies.

Yearbook (The Lock)

Club Description: For the next eight months, it will be our responsibility to capture the entire year within the pages of The LOCK. We will accomplish this with creative photography, artwork, and layout design using Pagemaker coupled with interesting copy and hard work. We need freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors willing to meet every Thursday beginning in September. No experience is necessary; students will be taught all aspects of yearbook production. Listen to the announcements during the first week of school for our first meeting.
